CMSC 11100
Multimedia Programming as an Interdisciplinary Art II (=ISHU 23600)Prerequisites: MATH 10600, or placement into MATH 13100 or equivalent; or consent of instructor. This course meets the general education requirement in the mathematical sciences.
Catalog Description: This course is a continuation of CMSC 11000/ISHU 23500 that enlarges upon programming arts by identifying characteristic forms of computer programs such as: Turing machines, models, simulations, games and hypertexts as "genres" of argumentation. Students will study such forms through the programming and analysis of recurrent scientific strategies as characteristic for the different kinds of applications. Such strategies are making important contributions to new patterns of thinking developing in the disciplines of the humanities, as well as those in the social, biological and physical sciences. When embedded in software applications engage users in "interactive arguments" or behaviorial sequences with wide ranging human impacts. More complete programming experience in object-like technigues will be fostered through a series of case studies in the different genres and what they mean in an interdisciplinary context.
Instructors: W. SternerQuarter offered: Spring. Not offered 2005-06.
