Resources for Group Projects
Under the University of Chicago
Eligibility and Acceptable
Use Policy for Information Technology, shared accounts are not permitted.
Everyone using the Department of Computer Science systems is required
to have an
individual CS account.
Anyone with a valid
Harper Account
is eligible for a CS account.
There are a number of ways users with CS accounts can collaborate:
Unix Groups
Members of a group can request a
unix group be created for them.
Files can then be given permissions such as
group readable and
group writable. Please note that
world writable files are
not permitted, for security reasons.
CVS
We offer the
version control system
CVS that can help organize group collaboration. CVS can prevent users
from overwrite each others' changes, and keeps a history of changes
to CVS controlled files, etc. Here is a link to the
CVS manual.
Shared disk space
We can sometimes offer a NFS shared disk space, accessible from most
CS machines, as our limited resources permit. Please contact
techstaff@cs.uchicago.edu
with your requirements. Depending on the size of this space, we may
be able to also back this up to our tape system.
