When you obtain a CS account, you get an email address:
your-username@cs.uchicago.edu
This address is in addition to your university CNET address.
You can send and read email using any of a number of email clients. It is recommended that you stick to using one client, however, as different clients may move mail to different locations.
Text based mail clients offer some advantages under linux, such as easy secure remote access via ssh. Some popular text based mail clients are listed here. Please note these links take you to common tutorials elsewhere on the web: some information may not apply to our site. Feel free to email techstaff with any questions.
Mail Forwarding
You may wish to read your mail at another address, or wish to use a web based mail reader such as the University's cMail system (this requires your University CNetID and password). Please read these instructions for forwarding your CS email to another account.
