Configuring Eudora for Windows to use IMAP
Only Eudora 5.1 or later supports secure IMAP. To download eudora click here.
- Choose Tools -> Personalities or go to the personalities tab.
- Right click in the empty area and choose New... to create a new personality
- Choose "Skip directly to advanced account setup" and hit Finish.

In the "Generic Properties" tab fill in the following:
- Personality name : CS IMAP Account
- Real name : (Your Full name)
- Return Address : (cslogin)@cs.uchicago.edu
- Login Name : (cslogin)
- SMTP Server : smtp.cs.uchicago.edu
- Authentication allowed: Uncheck it
- Default Domain : cs.uchicago.edu
- Secure Sockets when Sending: Never
- Check Mail: Check this check box
- The remaining can be whatever you want.
- Server: laime.cs.uchicago.edu
- Configuration: IMAP
- IMAP Mailbox Location Prefix: Leave it blank
- Authentication style: Passwords
- Secure Sockets when Receiving: Required, Alternate Port
- The remaining can be whatever you want.
- Now it will ask you for a password to download your mail. Enter you cs password and hit Enter
- It will complain about some certificate and abort. If it did not skip the next N steps.
- Select the CS IMAP Account and right click and choose Properties.
- In the "Account Settings for CS IMAP Account" dialog box, choose the "Incoming Mail" tab, and Click on "Last SSL Info".
- In the "Eudora SSL Connection Information Manager" dialog box, click the "Certificate Information Manager" button, to get to the "Certificate Information Manager" dialog box.
- Under "Server Certificates", select the Certificate which starts with "US, Illinois, Chicago, The University of Chicago, Computer Science Department..." and click "Add to Trusted".
- Hit "Done" to close this dialog box, "OK" to close the "SSL Connection Information Manager" dialog box, and finally "OK" to close the "Account Settings for CS IMAP Account" dialog box.
- Now choose "Tools -> Mailboxes" to get to the Mailboxes tab, and Double Click on "CS IMAP Account". This time you should be able to see all your email.
