Configure the OS-X Mail Application for IMAP

  • If you have not configured mail before, you will be prompted for information. Enter as specified below.
    • Note: This configuration information is not sufficient to establish a connection to the mail server. When the connection times out, press continue, then go to SSL below.

  • If you already configured mail, reconfigure with Mail->Preferences

Basic Mail App Configuration

  • Description: CS IMAP
  • Email Address: your-user-name@cs.uchicago.edu
  • Incoming Mail Server: laime.cs.uchicago.edu
  • Mail Server Type: IMAP
  • Username: Your CS Username
  • Password: Your CS Password
  • Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.cs.uchicago.edu

Advanced Tab

  1. Check Enable this account
  2. Check Include when automatically checking for new mail
  3. Check: Use SSL
  4. Port: 993
  5. Authentication: Password
You should now be able to press Get Mail and connect to the mail server.
