Dept Web Site

  • Editable Web Content
Our department website is a custom system that allows classes of users to edit content of certain pages. These permissions are active when your name appears on the CS people page. If it does not, please contact Margaret Jaffey in Ry 161A.

You should see a login link at the top right of our website pages. After the certificate authorization process, you will be asked for your CS Unix username and a web password. If you don't have, or forgot your web password, just follow the instructions any one will be emailed to you.

After logging in, you can change modes on pages you can edit, switching between edit mode and display mode.

    • Course Info on the Web
Course information for the Dept of Computer Science is located at http://www.cs.uchicago.edu/courses. Instructors are able to edit pages that publicize information about their courses, such as the class schedule, textbooks, etc.

    • People Page
You may edit information on your people page, including uploading a photo.

  • Standard HTML
    • Course Home Page
A directory owned by you should have been created for your course website. For example, CMSC 10200-91 offered in Summer 2002 is located in the Unix directory:
      /stage/classes/archive/2002/summer/10200-91/.

Files in this directory can be accessed via the url:

      http://www.classes.cs.uchicago.edu/archive/2002/summer/10200-91/
(or through http://www.classes.cs.uchicago.edu/current/10200-91/ if the course is currently in session.)

Files in these course directories are backed up, and archives are maintained. CGI programs are not permitted to run from this directory, however, you can put CGI programs on your people page and link to them.

    • Personal Home Page
Everyone with a CS account can put up web pages by creating files in a directory named html in their home directory. Web pages in this directory can be accessed via the url http://people.cs.uchicago.edu/~username
