Wired Connections to Ryerson Network
In general, you should ask Techstaff for wired access at your desk or office. Please do not unplug any desktop computers from the network.CSPP Students
Network jacks for laptops are provided in the CSPP Lab on the 4th floor of Ryerson. Your computer must be configured to use DHCP to access our network. Note, not all the jacks are activated, typically three of every group of four are. If you don't get a dhcp address, try another jack.Configuring DHCP under Windows XP
- Plug your computer into a ethernet network jack
- If your computer is already configured for DHCP, you may be done. Try to access the Internet, for example by using a browser.
- Click on the Start Menu and Click on Control Panel.
- Click Network and Internet Connections or Network Connections
- Click Local Area Connection.
- Click on the General tab.
- Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
- Click Properties
- Make sure Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected.
- Click OK until all windows are closed.
- You should be able to access the internet now, for example with a web browser.
- If you still can't access the Internet from a web browser, try another network jack.
Configuring DHCP under Mac OS-X
- Plug your computer into a ethernet network jack
- In System Preferences select network
- Show: Built-in Ethernet
- Under the TCP/IP tab, configure: Using DHCP
- If all is well, an IP Address and other numbers should appear.
- Click Apply Now
- You should be able to access the internet now, for example with a web browser.
- If you still can't access the Internet from a web browser, try another network jack.
