Text: MATHEMATICAL THEORY OF FINITE ELEMENT METHODS, Springer-Verlag, by Brenner and Scott

The course will investigate the convergence properties of finite element methods for solving partial differential equations. A brief introduction to Sobolev spaces and polynomial approximation theory will be given. Special topics covered will include error estimators, max-norm error estimates, and Bananch-space operator-interpolation techniques.
